Jacob spent the day & night with Hallie while we moved Abby into her dorm.  He got to skip school and go to the zoo.  #roughlife

Mav is smiling up a storm these days.

Jacob at Home Depot the last time we went...Some things just don't change.

 92nd percentile for height.  Yup.

Jacob found out about all things not real this past spring.  But that doesn't mean we can't still be festive :)

I have noticed that when I turn my blogs into books the captions that are above their corresponding pictures end up getting grouped with the previous, non-corresponding pictures. So the caption is never with the right picture.  While I feel that above the pic is the logical place to put the caption when blogging so that the reader doesn't have to scroll down to find out what the explanation for the picture is, I guess I also understand that in newspaper and other media where there are captions, the captions go underneath.  And since Blog to Print doesn't have any real competition (PLEASE change this Snapfish or Shutterfly), I have to succumb to what they consider logical.  So, try not to be confused from here on out.

One day we were out running errands and Jacob asked, "Can we go to Academy? (a sporting goods store)"  I asked, "Why?"  He answered, "You know, just to walk around."  So that's what we did.  He played with the basketball goals, the big rubber balls, looked at shoes, and found a really oddly shaped skateboard/scooter thing that he rode around on in the store and no one stopped him because the store was almost completely empty because it was the middle of the summer and not at the beginning of a sport season or the beginning of the school year so who else goes to a sporting goods store just to walk around one day in the middle of the week?  Anyway, it made me think about how as a little boy we would go to Barnes and Noble and just hang out. So I found this.  Cuteness.

 4 generations of Phillipses

Josh's family had a reunion.  Thus the matching shirts.
*Side note:  if our family ever has a reunion, I will personally poison the lasagna of the person who decides we all have to wear matching shirts.  ESPECIALLY if they are a hideous color resembling this one.

The shirt, the pj pants-completely backwards.  At least he is consistent...

We were on the way to Michael and Morgan's.  He didn't grab this as he got out of the car, so I reminded him about it.  He said he wasn't bringing it in.  Why did he bring it at all then, you may wonder.  "To bounce on the dashboard while we were driving."  Duh.

Someone in Collierville owns this hot air balloon and randomly flies it (is that the right terminology for a hot air balloon venture?).  I find this random.  And crazy.  And awesome.  Who owns a hot air balloon and just gets it out one day like a normal person would say "let's go for a bike ride"?

just some random pics going on here

Oh, these were going to be a "Mom of a Boy" post but I was too lazy to find out what number I was on.  Above, we have a cutie playing on his iPod.
Below we have a boy playing with a friend's HUGE Nerf gun.  Why is it so big???

He moves his over-the-door basketball goal all over the house.

It took FOREVER to find his name.

He has decided recently that he wants to earn his own money to spend on Christmas gifts for Jon and me.  Which is surprising and sweet.  So he and a friend decided to have a garage sale.  Unfortunately it did not go well because he really doesn't have many toys left to sell at this point.  So I suggested selling Koolaid (no one in my house likes lemonade except for myself so we never have any).  It was about 4 in the afternoon at this point so they didn't get many people driving by, but they made a few bucks.  Next time, per a friend's suggestion, we will get and advertise Sonic ice.  And charge $1 a cup.

Those were all Mav being a cutie :)

In a completely shocking turn of events we got a letter notifying Abby of a scholarship she had been awarded.  We had applied for it back in January but had never heard anything.  I called at the beginning of the summer and even went by the office during orientation to check on it, but both times I was told that if we hadn't heard anything by then we hadn't gotten it.  So yea, this was a total surprise.  Apparently they had a waiting list and if the original winners (?) hadn't accepted by then they moved to the waiting list.  I'll take it!!!

I mean, the dog is a doofus.  He fell asleep like this.

Jon was out cleaning up fallen branches one day after a storm when Jacob and his friend Braden were "bored."  So Jon built them an obstacle course.  Of course he did.  It has grown since then and become quite popular.  Parents come over and I hear quiet prayers being said, but you know, the kids are having fun :)

1 Waterslide

There is this place on Hwy 64, in the middle of nothing, that sells those customized swingset/fort things. Last year they randomly put up 1, that's right, ONE inflatable waterslide.  I drove past it, heard a few people talk about it, but we never went.  This year when our Knoxville trip fell through (sadness), Michael and I decided to take the kids.  It is $10 per person and you get to slide all day long if you want.  You can bring food, drinks, chairs, etc.  They have umbrellas stuck in the sand that surrounds the slide. However, I gotta say I did NOT think it was going to hold their interest for long.  Of course I was wrong.

I never in a million years would have guessed that kids could have so much fun on ONE slide.
These pictures are backwards and I used the burst shot function.

Morgan

I know I could have gone without posting all these shots of her just moving a millimeter further down, I just think she is such a goob, spread eagle like that.

Jacob made a few friends and they slid down together

That's Jake pointing and laughing. Love it.

This is Jacob's friend Michael that we brought with us.

Morgan and her friend she brought

Why yes that is Michael.  Morgan is leaning over so he will high five her as he passed

This is Jacob's friend's sister who also came with us

I think what made it so great was that it stayed inflated all the way till the end.  So they didn't land in gross dirty water.  Also, the ride down kept them going all the way across the even part.
